Following the noise of recent days regarding the issue of heating the swimming pools at the Nea Chora Swimming Pool, we must clarify to the sports fans of Chania the actions that have been taken by the Chania Sports and Recreation Association and the Deputy Ministry of Sports, in consultation with the NOX.
Foreseeing that there would be an issue with increased oil prices in the coming months and at the urging of the Deputy Ministry of Sports, we promptly requested an emergency grant of 120,000 euros from the General Secretariat of Sports.
In our request, there was never any refusal on the part of the Deputy Minister of Sports regarding his satisfaction, quite the opposite in fact.
The disbursement was therefore scheduled to take place by mid-October (in order to procure a few months' worth of oil by early November at the latest), as for the month of October, there was a commitment from NOX - which was reiterated at the recent meeting held at the Chania Public Library - that it would undertake the purchase (within the context of our relevant agreement and the excellent cooperation for the operation of the swimming pool), given the increased revenue it would have in September.
We reiterate that from our side, all the foreseen procedures were initiated on time with a clear timetable and the Deputy Ministry never refused to assist in resolving the problem, something that was mentioned by Mr. Avgenakis himself in the meeting he had a week ago with the chairman of the Board of Directors of NOX, Dimitris Leipsakis, as he himself announced afterwards.
Everyone's concern is the uninterrupted operation of the Swimming Pool and the best possible training conditions for the athletes of the clubs that use the facility.
