The National Sports Center is a Legal Entity of Public Law and was established in the year 2000 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 54/2000, according to which the National Stadium of Chania and the National Nautical Sports Center of Chania were abolished as entities. Subsequently, by virtue of Law 4002/2011, the National Shooting Range of Chania was abolished as an entity and merged with the National Sports Center of Chania (NAC).

The operation of the E.A.K. Chania is governed by the provisions of Law 423/1976 “On Gyms and Regulation of Issues Relating to Extracurricular Sports”, Presidential Decree 456/1988 “Organization and Operation of Gyms”, Ministerial Decision 17112/2000 “Regulations on the Operation of National and Municipal Gyms of the Country” and the Legislative Decree “On Accounting of Legal Entities”, as amended and in force.
