With its announcement, the Chania Athletics Association announces that the 68th Venizelia Athletics Championships will be held as usual on June 4 at the Chania “Elena Venizelou” Athletics Stadium, after financial resources have been found to support the historic meeting.
The announcement of A.O. Kydon in detail:
The Board of Directors of A.O. Kydon, after the problem created by the very low funding of the Venizelia athletics competitions, proceeded with the necessary contacts with bodies and sponsors to secure the necessary resources for the implementation of the competitions at a level that corresponds to the history of the longest-running athletic institution in Crete.
We are pleased to announce that:
1. The Region of Crete increased the amount of aid for the games by 3000 as requested by the Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Apostolos Voulgarakis from the Regional Governor Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis.
2. The Municipal Council of Chania decided to support the games with 3,500 euros
3. SEGAS promised to support the organization by assuming part of the costs.
4. The General Secretariat will support the struggles financially within the framework allowed by current economic conditions.
5. The major sponsor of the 68th Venizelia will be the COOPERATIVE BANK OF CHANIA and the major sponsor of the 68th Venizelia race (which will be held one week earlier, on May 29) will be WIND. In addition, a sum of money was secured from small sponsorships and the effort continues.
In the competitive sector, the top Greek athletes have already registered to participate, and at the same time, approximately 35 foreign athletes from Sweden, Bulgaria, Israel, Cyprus, Brazil and Italy will take part in the games.
The Board of Directors of A.O. Kydon thanks all the organizations and sponsors for their immediate response and will give all its strength to make the 68th Venizelia Athletics Games worthy of the history and tradition they have created.
We invite our fellow citizens to come to the National Stadium of Chania on June 4 to attend a high-level event and to support the institution with their presence.
Sports is life and it is worth participating not only as spectators but also taking part, regardless of our performance. For this reason, we invite young and old to take part next Sunday morning at 9:00, in the classic 10,500-meter route of 68th Venizelio Street or on City Street (3,500-meter route).
