Home / News / The new air pollution measurement station is located in a space provided by the Chania Municipal Health and Safety Authority.

The air pollution measurement station was inaugurated at noon on Monday, June 20, in a space provided by the Chania Municipal Health and Safety Authority.

The new station was constructed entirely with money through the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) from the Region of Crete, based on a relevant study by the Technical University of Crete, which will also manage the data.

Present at the inauguration were the Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, the Deputy Governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, the Rector of the Technical University of Crete, Vangelis Diamantopoulos, the President of the Board of Directors of the Technical University of Crete, Takis Svourakis and members of the administration.

This station is part of the network of stations for monitoring air pollution on the island.

The equipment concerns three new stations (Heraklion, Chania, Voutes Campus) and additional measuring instruments for two existing stations (Technical University of Crete, Finokalia) that will cover the needs of the Region of Crete, based on Regional Planning, national and European legislation.

“A few months ago we were told that the Region wants to install an air quality measurement station. We responded positively and today we are holding the inauguration. We are here for the Chania society and especially for issues related to the environment and the atmosphere in general.”, Mr. Svourakis pointed out.
