The president of the Chania Public Health Authority, Manolis Kouridakis, gave a press conference yesterday afternoon, June 3. The interview was given as part of an update on the progress of the work at the Chania Public Health Authority's facilities.
The Management Committee has only been in office for 18 months and in this unprecedented - due to Covid - environment where all public structures were under-functioning and with a budget reduced by more than €200,000 (88,000 debt from the previous administration and 120,000 for employee salaries that were previously paid by the General Secretariat) it managed to initiate and in many cases remedy problems at the facilities of the Chania Public Health Service.
In summary we will mention:
- CHANIA NATIONAL STADIUM:
- Lighting Poles and Preheater: For the energy upgrade of the Stadium's electric lighting, by the decision of the General Secretariat dated 11/02/2021, a temporary project contractor was declared with a contractual offer of €335,287.04 (plus VAT 24%), while for the preheater, by the decision of the General Secretariat dated 05/03/2021, a temporary project contractor was declared with a contractual offer of €51,979.92 (plus VAT 24%).
Both are in the pre-contractual review stage. - Stadium Fencing: A Technical Report has been prepared (with EAK's own resources) for the restoration of the stadium fence on Korai Street and which has been sent to the Secretariat. With the Secretariat's letter of 16/09/2020 in response to our request for restoration of the fence according to the technical report, we were informed that no technical intervention is permitted because the section is included in the contract entitled "EAK of Chania: Repair and maintenance works of facilities" in which partial and final acceptance has not been made.
- Toilets/Changing Rooms: The membranes were removed from the ceilings of the changing rooms two months ago. They will remain open for another month so that most of the moisture can be removed and then we will proceed with the necessary restoration work both externally and internally. The total work, which includes building and insulation, is estimated at approximately €14,000.
- Weight lifting: For this specific area, there is a static restoration study by a private engineer, which has been in the hands of the General Secretariat of the Interior since 2018. According to communication we have with the General Secretariat of the Interior engineers, while the study is complete, it is necessary to procure technical software to update it. The software is already in the hands of the General Secretariat of the Interior and, as we were informed, a team of General Secretariat engineers will visit in June, both for an extensive autopsy so that we can proceed with the updating of the study, and for the receipt of the aforementioned contract entitled "Chania Sports Complex: Repair and maintenance works of facilities" (so that we can also proceed with the fencing works of the stadium that I mentioned earlier.)
- Indoor Gym: The programmatic contract that we had concluded with the Regional Unit of Chania, for a total amount of €100,000, is in progress and will be completed within the month and concerns:
- Restoration of the basketball court parquet.
- Supply of electronic scoreboard.
- Supply of a short jump mat.
- Restoration of frames and safety glass.
During the same period, with resources from the Chania Public Health Agency, doors were replaced at both entrance gates (El. Venizelou and A. Papandreou) at the National Stadium and the entrance sign was restored with an illuminated one, basketball stands were restored and seats were installed, basketball backboards were replaced, the eastern entrance of the indoor gym was restored/arranged and the sauna was reopened.
For the immediate future, with our own resources, work has been planned regarding:
- New sidewalks around the indoor gym (estimated cost €6,000).
- Paving the corridor between the stands and the tartan fencing (estimated cost €3,500).
- Complete restoration of the external walls and roof of the stadium warehouse (estimated cost €6,000).
Finally, we are in advanced discussions to conclude a new programmatic contract with the Regional Unit of Chania that will concern the supply and placement of:
- High jump mattress based on the estimated cost of €000.
- Fitness equipment for three rooms at an estimated cost of €000.
- Jump valves with their covers, estimated cost €000.
- 3,000m steeplechase, estimated cost 500€.
- NATIONAL NAVAL SPORTS CENTER:
As for the swimming pool, we used our own resources to procure lighting for a 50m pool, lighting masts, lightning rods, a new water pump, and also carried out maintenance work on building facilities.
Regarding the contract for cutting out and removing the covers of the 25 and 12.5m swimming pools, with funding of €80,000 from the Chania Public Swimming Pools and the contracting and supervising authority being the General Secretariat of the Navy, from the last update I have, it has been completed and will be delivered within the next ten days. Upon completion of the contract, the pools will be refilled with water and will be available for use until October. During this time, as far as I know, the studies from the G.S.A. program agreement with O.A.K. S.A. will also be fully completed so that the procedures for the restoration of the National Nautical Center of Chania can begin.
- NATIONAL OBSERVATORY OF CHANIA:
At the shooting range facilities, again with our own resources, we proceeded with the maintenance of building infrastructure of approximately 1,500 sq.m. (with extensive and extremely serious corrosion) as well as the maintenance of wooden surfaces of approximately 1,000 sq.m. as required to be carried out every two years. At the same time, we also proceeded with the procurement of mechanical equipment.
