The president and members of the EAK Board of Directors met with the coaches and managers of the clubs operating at the National Stadium of Chania to discuss the issue of electric lighting.
As the chairman of the Board of Directors said, Takis SvourakisJust yesterday, Thursday, the EAK was notified of the contractor's request to close the stadium for twenty days, starting on June 1, so that the most serious work on the pillars can be carried out, as serious safety issues are being raised for everyone.
The relevant document was also notified to the General Secretariat of Sports.
After 20 days and with the lights already installed, the stadium would reopen.
However, there are issues that were not taken into account by the contractor, such as the sports that candidates for the national exams must take for admission to schools, as well as the preparation of athletes in view of important competitive obligations during the summer. The primary concern, however - something that was also clarified at the meeting - was for the children who are taking exams for their admission to secondary education.
Given that if the project is not done now, there is a very high possibility that it will be postponed to another time period, much later, and possibly lost, a specific proposal was put on the table for discussion by the technical consultant of EAS SEGAS Crete, Markos Kaloudis, with which everyone agreed and it is the one that will be reported to the contractor.
In particular, and given that the stadium will be without power for a few days, it is proposed:
- Three-hour afternoon training sessions between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. daily for all clubs in consultation with each other.
However, if a safety issue arises for the above case, Mr. Kaloudis suggests that only half of the stadium be used for the 20 days from June 1 to 20.
For his part, the legal advisor and member of the Board of Directors of the Chania Public Health Association, Lefteris Manousakis, noted that the project must be done and everyone must understand that safety comes first, but at the same time the future of children who are taking national exams and need to pass sports to enter their schools.
It should be noted that the contractor will be installed at the stadium from June 1st.
