A press conference with the city's media regarding the reasons for the establishment of the Athlete Citizen Card and its 5 euro monthly subscription was given on Monday afternoon by the president of the Chania Sports and Recreation Association, Mr. Takis Svourakis.

In summary, Mr. Svourakis said:

We understand the protests that may exist, on the other hand, this way we will ensure security in the stadium area. It is also a great need to generate revenue, as the General Secretariat of Sports gives us this opportunity."

The EAK facilities cannot be an open vineyard where anyone can enter."From February 1st, everyone will be sure that everyone who enters will be completely safe."

Any revenue generated from this small subscription will feed into the existing revenue code of the Public Health Authority and will serve the ever-increasing needs of the citizens who use our facilities.”

People need to understand that the State has now put a ceiling on its grants to everyone, and for this reason we too must find alternative ways of small-scale financing so that we can improve our facilities as much as we can.

Our administration has decided that a large portion of citizens involved in and within sports, as well as special groups, will be exempt from the subscription. These will be:

1. People with disabilities with their companion
2. Physical Education graduates (with a copy of their degree)
3. Unemployed (with the presentation of the OAED card per month)
4. Students (upon presentation of their student ID)
5. Referees of all sports (with demonstration of their accreditation)
6. Athletes - learning of all clubs (with monthly status of each club)
7. Large families (with presentation of the card)
8. Candidates for SEFAA – military schools (with trainer status)
