Athens, March 23, 2020
PRESS RELEASE
The country's sports family, with Activity Code Numbers 9311, 9312, 9313, 9319 and their subcategories (six-digit and eight-digit), was included in the "Determination of the details of the implementation of article 2 of the PNP of 11.03.2020 (Government Gazette 55 A), by which urgent measures are taken to address the negative consequences of the emergence of the coronavirus and the need to limit its spread (Ministerial Decision No. A.1053/2020, Government Gazette 949/B/21-3-2020).
A relevant proposal had been submitted by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, to the Ministers of Finance and Labor and Social Affairs. In order to ensure that sports clubs, associations and sports federations are included and treated equally in those categories that are entitled to the Support Measures, which were announced by the Government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. A measure that was taken, given that the interruption of any sports, competitive and training activity directly affects, with significant negative consequences, the coaches, the staff of sports federations and associations and the staff of the National Sports Centers (NAC).
Support Measures include the following:
* The payment deadlines for debts certified by the Tax Office/Audit Centers of businesses that have an active, main activity code on 20/03/2020 or that expire or expired from 11/03/2020 to 30/4/2020 are extended until 31/08/2020. Until the same date and for the same debts and persons as above, the payment deadlines for installments of arrangements/facilities for partial payment of certified debts are also extended.
* The collection of the debts of the above persons, confirmed and overdue on 11/03/2020, is suspended until 31/08/2020.
* Interest and surcharges for the period of suspension are not calculated upon payment.
* In the event that employees of companies (some or all) are placed under suspension of their employment contract and the relevant employer terminates it, as well as in the event that, after the completion of the measure, the companies do not maintain the same number of jobs, the extension or suspension ceases automatically and the debts are burdened with interest and surcharges, based on the initial date of certification.
It is noted that the application of this decision excludes Legal Entities of Private Law (LEPs) that belong to the state or to LEPs or OTAs - in the sense of achieving a state or public or self-administrative purpose, supervision, appointment and control of the majority of their Management - or are regularly subsidized, in accordance with the applicable provisions, from state resources by at least fifty percent (50%) of their annual budget.
