The changes that have recently taken place at the National Shooting Range in Kampani, Akrotiri, are very significant, in view of the important event "Battle of Crete - Stelios Karampinakis".

After years, all the wiring for the machines in the Olympic stadiums was changed, as the damage was such that they were giving many incorrect commands.

Three new computers were purchased from Italy for control in the trap, skeet and compact sporting sports, which means that everything will now be done via computer and not manually.

Also, changes were made to the electrical panels and sound equipment, while a sixth field is being created for compact sportives, so that there is a variety of events.

The head of the shooting range and member of the Board of Directors of the Chania Regional Shooting Range, Vangelis Lampakis, expresses his satisfaction, noting that… “A big goal is the creation of a fourth Olympic stadium, as there is space. Then even a shooting world cup could be hosted in Chania. We are in constant communication with the federation and coach Salavantakis. At this year's “Battle of Crete – Stelios Karampinakis” event, we will have the honor of having the Secretary General of the World Shooting Federation in Chania, who will be given a tour of the facilities.”

At the same time, in order for the fields to meet the specifications set by the World Federation, improvements had to be made, mainly soil-related. New concrete was poured and all the fields (slabs and jetties) were painted, while landscaping work was also carried out.

“I thank everyone who worked to achieve this excellent result. The contribution of the Local Government was also significant”, adds Mr. Lampakis.

Many improvements have also been made to the fixed-goal courts, mainly in the lighting section, in order to meet the World Federation's specifications.

Finally, although it has been approved as an expense, the project for scoring with cameras at the 25 m fixed target shooting range is expected to be carried out.
