It is clear that the energy crisis and the "spiking" of electricity bills, combined with the sharp rise in fuel prices, are an "explosive" mixture that could not leave the sports sector in our city, and in particular the Nea Chora swimming pool, unscathed.
As for the Chania Public Health Authority, which manages the swimming pool, regarding the closure of the 25-person pool, we have a few things to point out, not to restore any truth (since the truth is that the pool was closed), but at the level of facts and data.
The closure of the 25-meter swimming pool was therefore agreed verbally together with the Chania Nautical Club at the last meeting at the EAK offices with the outgoing administration. The EAK of Chania, as it is obliged to do, had to announce the closure of the 25-meter swimming pool, which was officially done with a relevant document. Unofficially, however, the pool had been closed for a week, as all users of the facility know very well. This is because no one was using it anymore, due not only to saving oil, but also in the context of the agreement with NOX, so that the 50-meter and 12.5-meter pools would remain open.
It is therefore clear that the closure of the 25-meter pool, given that all the athletes of the Group had been transferred to the other two pools - mostly to the 50-meter pool - brings a great saving - apart from oil - and money on electricity bills, but also the amount required for its chlorination. As an indication, we present the last two electricity bills of the Nautical Sports Center, which exceed 70,000 for the two months of October - September (with the subsidy included). It is estimated that the money that will be saved from the closure of the 25-meter pool exceeds 12,000 euros monthly!!! True or false?
We reiterate at this point that the closure of the 25-meter high was a joint agreement - at an oral level - between the Chania Sports and the National Sports Council, which had to be officially confirmed by the Sports and Recreation Council with the relevant document that was made public and within the framework of the energy saving measures that were sent with a relevant circular from the Deputy Ministry of Sports.
We would like to inform you that, at the beginning of next week, an extraordinary grant of 50,000 euros is expected to be posted on DIAVGEIA for the Chania Sports and Recreation Center, exclusively for the supply of oil for the Nea Chora swimming pool, as a result of the request that was submitted in good time two months ago by the Managing Committee to the General Secretariat of Sports. Despite the fact that the request concerned an amount of around 120,000 euros, currently and to serve the winter needs of all the country's public swimming pools that manage oil-filled swimming pools, the amount is exclusively specific to each public swimming pool.
We are at your disposal for any questions regarding the supply of oil for the Chania swimming pool, the procedures that have been followed and the discussions that have taken place with the NOX administration, beyond any oppositional mood, which does not fit into the demands for the sporting youth of our city. Moreover, similar problems with expensive electricity bills are faced by all public bodies (local government, etc.) for which there have been repeated reports and reports. The Chania Public Health Service is also included in these public bodies…
