“Our commitment is that it won't happen again, but no employee was informed”

After apologizing in advance for the inconvenience suffered by those who were locked in the stadium for a short time on Saturday night, we must explain some things that even our fellow citizens who were "trapped" may not know.

The issue arose because our caretaker did not know, nor had anyone from the club, whose athletes were playing chess, informed her, that in a room where it was not clear whether anyone was inside or not, matches were being held at that moment, and even with minors.

As he informed us, he circled the stadium to check if anyone was in the area, saw no one and left, locking the facility.

We note that the club has already been informed in writing several days ago by the administration of the EAK Chania that there is a specific operating schedule for the stadium, especially on Saturday.

The operation is until 6 p.m., unless there are matches taking place, for which we are informed in advance so that employee services can be scheduled.

Additionally, as of February 1st, the door through which the athletes usually entered for chess - the entrance from Korai - was locked for stadium security reasons. In fact, the lock has also been changed, as some of the club members had keys from the previous one.

In any case, we reiterate our apologies for the inconvenience caused to people, especially children, however, the association should have informed them, both about the opening hours and the changes that have been made, as well as about the security issue with the change of the lock.

We are committed to ensuring that something like this never happens again.
