Antonis Tsapatakis made history in Madeira. The "bronze" Paralympic champion in Tokyo won the first Greek medal at the World Championships that opened today in Madeira, Portugal, as well as the first gold medal of his career at the world championship level!

Tsapatakis, in the final of the 100m. SB4 breaststroke, had a time of 1:36.27 which brought him to first place, with his performance also constituting a new Panhellenic record. The previous one belonged to him with 1:36.33 from July 18, 2015 in England.

The swimmer from Chania came in second in the first 50m (45.23), but in the final stretch he had no problem passing Colombian Moises Fuentes Garcia (1:36.84) and finishing first (note: in 2019 he was 4th in the corresponding event).

Also from the Greek side, Giannis Kostakis was 5th in the 50m. breaststroke SB (1:08.20), while Maria Tsakona ranked 8th in the 100m. backstroke S6 (1:45.38). Out of the final in the 50m. freestyle S5, Alexandros Lergios remained with a time of 37.40.
