In the presence of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, the Chania Sports and Recreation Association cut its New Year's cake.
As Mr. Avgenakis said, in mid-March everything will be ready for the project of reconstructing the Nea Chora swimming pool to be put out to auction, adding… “It is already scheduled for the auction to go live in March, with a budget of 7.5 million euros, with funding from the Ministry of Sports. Its inclusion and funding will be officially announced in February.”
Regarding the tendering of the project, Mr. Avgenakis noted that everything is ready and there is absolutely no question about whether it can be done by the Public Works Department. However, he insisted that he wants the procedures to be as fast as possible.
At the same time, Mr. Avgenakis also discussed the "unblocking" by the Court of Auditors of the lighting replacement project at the National Stadium of Chania, where LED lamps will be installed.
He also announced that the project to maintain the weightlifting hall is already ready to be auctioned, with a total cost of 400,000 euros and with secured financing.
He also mentioned the big issue of the swimming pool in Akrotiri, as the program agreement has been updated and there is cooperation with the new Rector's Authority, so that the space can be created for the throwing athletes of Chania, who also form the basis of our National Track and Field Team.
"Everything that happened belongs to the past, now we care about the future. The project budget is 8 million euros and we will soon have to make announcements about this project as well", pointed out Mr. Avgenakis.
Also present at the event were the ND MP for Chania, Vasilis Digalakis, the ND MP candidate, Alexandros Markogiannakis, the Rector of the Technical University of Crete, regional councilors, and representatives from the city's sports clubs.
