With the completion of two months since the appointment of the newly established management committee of the Chania Municipal Sports Association, we would like to inform you of the actions that were carried out within a tight time frame, since we were at the end of the 2023 management period.
– First of all, we should mention that the current administration received a debt of 528,000 euros, which related to debts to PPC and DEYAX. It is worth noting that from the second installment of the budget, 60,000 euros were paid for debts to PPC, 40,000 euros to DEYAX and 41,000 euros for chlorine needs.
– It is worth emphasizing that upon assuming the duties of the said committee, an issue arose regarding the supply of oil, but after methodical moves and consultation with the minister's office, an extraordinary grant of 70,000 euros was secured. The said amount was used exclusively for the management of current expenses at the Chania Nautical Sports Center.
– The committee’s quick reflexes worked to find a solution for the “blanket” of the 50-meter swimming pool as the previous one was found to be in a poor condition and unsuitable for use. Following contact with the CEO of DEPA, Mr. Konstantinos Xifaras, the amount of 60,000 euros was secured for the purchase of a new one. At the same time, a payment arrangement was made to cover the value-added tax, while the receipt of the new “blanket” will take place in the first months of the year.
– At the same time, the committee is closely monitoring the process of the programmatic agreement between the OAK, the General Secretariat of Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs for the preparation of the final phase of the planned swimming pool project before its auction is posted.
– The administration committee with its letter-proposal to the competent minister, which concerned the financing of the well-known “Marmatakis” study and which is related to the restoration-maintenance of the area of the former weightlifting hall which is located under the existing stands. As a result of the said action, there was an assurance that the said study will be included for financing at the beginning of 2024.
– The committee invited the Ministry's technical services department for an inspection and civil engineer Konstantinos Mikedis visited Chania in response to our call. He conducted an inspection of the wall of Korai Street, the bathrooms and the changing rooms of the Chania national stadium, while at the same time a study will be carried out for the facilities of the Chania Tennis building for static adequacy as well as the necessary installation of an elevator.
– All necessary preparatory actions are being taken for an upcoming agreement with a company that will proceed with the implementation of the energy upgrade for the following sites: – National Stadium of Chania – National Shooting Range and Tennis Building of Chania. The said agreement will be completed within a short period of time following the prescribed procedure. The study in question will be ready within three months so that it can be included in the energy upgrade program for public buildings of the Region of Crete.
– The management committee has received information from the technical services of the General Secretariat that the study to restore the turf of the national stadium has been completed, while its immediate priorities include the replacement of the “tartan” since its condition is prohibitive for the holding and organization of major and international competitions such as the annual “Venizelia” event.
– The committee's goal is to create a sports park for the disabled through funding from E.S.A.E.F. and sponsors.
– The management committee had a face-to-face communication with the Rector of the Technical University of Crete and agreed on joint methodical actions for the rapid restoration and operation of the Akrotiri swimming pool.
– The committee will ensure that the needs of the National Shooting Range are met with maintenance works and the supply of new equipment for the Olympic sports of “skeet” and “trap”, as well as minor interventions required to complete the Olympic-sized archery field, which is located in the western part of the fixed target sports facilities.
In all these efforts of the new administration, there have been many helpers. A special thank you to Konstantinos Xifaras, CEO of DEPA, the Vardinoyannis Group and the office of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for their unwavering assistance.
