The Planning Agreement was signed for the Project "Repair and Upgrade of the National Nautical Sports Center of Chania", by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, the CEO of the Crete Development Organization, Aris Papadogiannis and the President of the Chania Nautical Club, Yiannis Chinos.
The Project, with a budget of €7,520,000 from the National Development Program of the Deputy Ministry of Sports, concerns the restoration, functional - aesthetic improvement and environmental upgrade of the building infrastructure and outdoor facilities of the swimming pool in Nea Chora, for which the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had committed.
The purpose of the 3-year Program Agreement is to provide technical assistance from the OAK, as the implementing body for the tender and the supervision of the progress of the works, to the Deputy Ministry of Sports, which is the Project Owner, and the NOX, which is the main user of the facilities.
Now, the OAK can quickly proceed with the auction of the modernization of the National Nautical Center of Chania.
The Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, emphasized:
«I am very happy because today's signatures not only implement a necessary project of inspiration for the sports family of Chania and our country, but they confirm once again our consistency. We do what we said and I remind you that it was another commitment of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which is being put into practice.
We worked systematically, we collaborated with the administration of the Chania Maritime and Sports Center, with the OAK, with the NOX and we overcame every obstacle. Studies were prepared from the beginning, we regulated and settled the urban planning issues, we are financing with 7.5 million and now the OAK can immediately tender and under its constant supervision, the Chania Maritime and Sports Center will be completely renovated, in two successive phases, so that the sports activity will not be disrupted.
I want to thank everyone for their cooperation, so that the "dream" can now come true: The Management Committee of the Chania Regional Office and its employees, the services of our Deputy Ministry, especially the director of my office, Ms. Angelaki, who expedited all the procedures, the administration and executives of the Regional Office and the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee."
The CEO of OAK, Aris Papadogiannis, emphasized:
«Today's development is the best possible answer, that will, cooperation and determination are the triptych of success. The signing of the Program Agreement for the Reconstruction of the Chania Swimming Pool is a fact! The society of Chania has been asking for this project for years, the big "step" has been taken and we must thank everyone who contributed. The Deputy Ministry of Sports, the Development Organization of Crete and the Nautical Club of Chania continue together, so that the new swimming pool of the city, as soon as possible, will host the sports family of Chania, Crete, all of Greece, as we owe it to the local community, the island and the country».
The President of NOX, Yiannis Chinos, noted:
«This is a day of joy for the world of aquatics in Chania. The sports facilities that have taught thousands of Chania residents how to swim and have produced generations and generations of Panhellenic, European and World champions will gain the prestige they deserve!
A decades-old dream is now taking its course, with the next step being its auction. We thank the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, as well as all those involved who contributed decisively to our signing of the Program Agreement today.
The involvement of the OAK in the Project and the effective cooperation with the Deputy Ministry, arm us with optimism for a quick and proper progress of the work.».
