Dedicated to the memory of former trap champion and member of the Chania Shooting Club “O Vardas”, Stelios Karampinakis, who “passed away” prematurely, is the Grand Prix “Battle of Crete” that will be held at the National Shooting Range of Chania from May 20 to 22, in the presence of top athletes.
At the same time, the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Crete, one of the most important of World War II, is also being commemorated.
"Honoring the fallen in the Battle of Crete, but also the memory of Stelios Karabinakis, we welcome to Chania the athletes participating in the international competitions "Battle of Crete Cup - Stelios Karabinakis". In particular, we welcome our brothers from Cyprus, the shooters who will take part in the competitions", points out the president of the Executive Board of the Chania Rifle Association, Takis Svourakis.
"We have a fully functional shooting range from all aspects. We are ready for the best organization in recent years. The athletes of the clubs are completely satisfied with the moves that have been made to improve the facility. We will ask Mr. Avgenakis to further modernize the shooting range so that it has the ability to host world-class events. We are also satisfied with the cooperation with the Local Government of the first and second degree and we are going to organize an impeccable match, honoring the fallen in the Battle of Crete, but also the memory of Stelios Karampinakis, who passed away prematurely," says the person in charge of the Shooting Range, Vangelis Lampakis.
The games will be honored with his presence by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, who will be at the National Shooting Range of Chania on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Both federal coaches will be present, as well as the entire National Skeet Team that won us the bronze medal at the Lonato World Cup in Italy.
Co-organizers of the “Battle of Crete” Cup are the Hellenic Shooting Federation, the International Shooting Sport Federation, the Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Chania, the Hellenic Tourism Organization and the “Vardas” Shooting Club.
