Another teleconference (the previous one took place on August 31) took place yesterday, Wednesday, September 29, at the initiative of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, on the progress of the procedures of the Studies for the "Repair and Upgrade of the National Nautical Center of Chania", as well as on the developments regarding the Weightlifting Hall at the National Stadium and the progress of the update of the Technical University Study for the swimming pool in Akrotiri.
The video conference was attended by MP Vassilis Digalakis, representative of the MP, Doras Bakoyannis, the Management Committee of the Chania Regional Development Authority under its President, Panagiotis Svourakis, the President and CEO of the Crete Development Organization, Lefteris Kopassis and Aris Papadogiannis, respectively, and the President of the Chania Nautical Club, Dimitris Leipsakis.
Mr. Papadogiannis informed about the actions of the OAK regarding the Studies for the "Repair and Upgrade of the National Nautical Center of Chania", which are developing in parallel and concern:
at the meeting with the Mayor, Panagiotis Simandarakis and the close cooperation of the Municipal Authority and the Urban Planning Department, in order to retrieve the complete file of the 1979 Building Permit
in the detailed surveys of the Engineers that are being carried out at the Nea Chora Swimming Pool, so that there will be a complete topographic and architectural survey as soon as possible
in the static control and preparation for the necessary electrical interventions and energy upgrades
and it was confirmed that the priority concern of all parties involved is the completion of the necessary Studies within the 4 months provided for in the relevant Program Agreement signed on 24/08/2021, amounting to €248,000
The President of the Chania Sports and Recreation Association, Mr. Svourakis, mentioned the immediate actions, costing €50,000, for the uninterrupted operation of the swimming pool during the winter months, with regard to the two small pools (25 and 12.5) by purchasing a new boiler, restoring the operating system of the tank covers, creating awnings to protect young athletes and coaches, replacing the lighting, windshields, etc.
The President of NOX, Mr. Leipsakis, praised the "excellent cooperation" with the administration of the EAK and the care they demonstrate daily, also thanking the Deputy Minister for his continuous and undiminished interest.
Furthermore, regarding the restoration of the Weightlifting room at the National Stadium, the necessary updating of the static study that had been prepared in the past is underway, so that it can soon reopen.
Finally, Mr. Digalakis, former Rector of the Technical University, pointed out that the "Update of the Restoration Study of the Building and the Environment of the Akrotiri Indoor Swimming Pool", with a budget of €68,523, is also being expedited, although it is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2022.
It is recalled that, in addition to the operation of the "ghost" swimming pool, the creation of a track and field, with a throwing aid, is underway in the surrounding area, while at the same time the Sustainability Study of the entire new sports center will be prepared and consultations on the Management Body model will be completed.
